Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Rumors: Exciting Upgrades

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to launch in August 2025, following the same pattern as previous Z Fold devices. Samsung’s new phone should sit alongside the Z Flip 7, the smaller flip-style folding device, and will take plenty of inspiration from last year’s China and South Korea-exclusive Z Fold Special Edition model.

Joining the upcoming Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold and Apple’s rumored iPhone Fold, the Z Fold 7 will compete for a top spot in the foldable phone market. However, last year’s Google Pixel range was cheaper than the Z Fold and provided a performance to rival the Samsung series too. 

Will the latest Z Fold 7 follow suit, or should we expect some bigger upgrades that set it apart? Let’s see what upgrades are making Android headlines and circulating on the rumor mill ahead of the predicted July announcement.

Design & Display

Like the Z Fold Special Edition, the Z Fold 7 could be bigger, but slimmer and lighter. In fact, it might even be as thin as the flagship Galaxy S24 Ultra (under 0.34 inches), making it easier to slide into your pocket on the go. Leaked images show that it may also have rounder corners to bring the design closer to the Galaxy S25 series.

Some sources suggest that the thinner design won’t have room for stylus support, meaning we may not have a dedicated S Pen. However, others report that a new stylus is in the works to offer even better S Pen support!

The Z Fold 6 dual displays are already huge, at 7.6 inches for the Main and 6.3 inches for the Cover screen. This year’s model looks like it may sport even larger screens — 8 and 6.5 inches! 

They’re also expected to keep the same maximum 120Hz refresh rates as the previous model. The 2600-nit peak brightness could be facilitated by Samsung’s ProScaler system, which is used on the S25 Plus and Ultra to ensure all content fits properly on the screen.

One significant upgrade comes courtesy of the crease through the center of the Samsung display — an annoying, yet natural feature for most foldable phones. Samsung may have found a way to eliminate this crease entirely, but it’ll be difficult to tell until release day.

Cameras

The Z Fold series hasn’t benefited from many camera upgrades in the past few years. But while the Z Fold 6 kept the same 50MP Main, 12MP Ultrawide, and 10MP Telephoto lenses as the previous generation, the newest model may see some improvements.

The primary camera on the Z Fold 7 is rumoured to be receiving the same 200MP sensor used on the Galaxy S25 Ultra and the Special Edition Fold. This would make it one of the best phones for photography this year!

The internal screen’s Under Display camera may also be upgraded from its current 4 megapixels for better quality selfies and video calls — although this claim is yet to be confirmed with any concrete evidence.

Performance

The latest Galaxy S25 flagship features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, which offers a 45% performance boost versus the previous 8 Gen 3. What’s great about the Z Fold 7 is that it should include this same Snapdragon processor for faster AI processing and enhanced graphics.

It’s also likely to feature the same 12GB RAM as last year’s model, although we’d welcome 16GB or higher to support the ever-improving Galaxy AI features.

In terms of battery, the Fold 7’s capacity is expected to stay at 4400 mAh. However, the new chipset could deliver better efficiency that supports a longer battery life, but we’ll have to wait and see!

Software

Current Galaxy devices are running on the One UI 7 software — just about. This update was delayed, only becoming available in April 2025 due to a bug, and has since received many complaints from Samsung users struggling with battery drain issues and laggy apps.

With all these problems considered, both the Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 could feature One UI 8, supported by the early launch of Android 16. Whichever operating system is used, however, many of the great features introduced by One UI 7 will be included.

Google Gemini, Google’s personal AI-powered chatbot, features even more extensions to work across multiple apps, from Calendar to Notes. Other Google AI tools, like Circle to Search, will also see improvements. 

But one of the most significant additions that comes from One UI 7 is the Now Bar. This makes relevant sports updates, Google Maps directions, and notifications available right on your lock screen.

Price

There haven't yet been many rumors regarding pricing. However, the previous Z Fold series saw a price hike in 2024, adding an extra $100 for the 6th generation’s 256GB storage option. Will the Z Fold 7 experience a similar cost increase to last year’s model?

We’re hoping that it will stay the same. $1,899, after all, is already pretty steep, and another increase would push it closer to the $2,000 territory.

With the launch of the Z Fold 7, we could finally be seeing some big changes to Galaxy’s foldable device line. The latest model introduces a larger, yet lighter design that offers even more functionality across the two screens — yet in a more convenient package.

Areas like battery and most of the camera system could be staying the same. But if the rumors are to be believed, we could benefit from some huge upgrades to the Main camera lens that push this folding phone closer to Galaxy’s flagship quality.

There could also be some pretty exciting performance updates to look forward to, particularly thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Elite, One UI 8 software, and ever-evolving Galaxy AI features.
