Samsung Z Fold 7 Release Date: All You Need to Know

GhosLeading the way in what’s tipped to be Samsung’s slimmest range of foldable and flip devices yet is the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

This tablet-style foldable series is known for its huge dual display setup with an impressive peak brightness, a high-performance Snapdragon chip, and quality cameras similar to those on the flagship Galaxy S range.

The latest addition to this lineup is already causing considerable excitement. So, what can we expect from the Z Fold 7? Will it live up to the hype of the previous generation? And when can you get your hands on it?

Keep reading as we share our predictions for the foldable phone’s announcement, pre-order, and release dates, based on the latest insider leaks and Samsung Electronics news.

When Will the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Be Announced?

According to South Korean source TheJoongAng, we’ll get our first glance of the Z Fold 7 in early July at Samsung’s biannual Galaxy Unpacked event.

Unpacked has previously taken place during the first couple of weeks in July, with the Z Fold 6 announced on July 10 2024, and this year’s is thought to be no different.

Samsung typically reveals its new devices on Wednesdays, potentially indicating July 2 and 9 especially since announcement dates have been slightly earlier each year. A few sources suggest July 10, but time zone differences would still make this July 9 in some parts of the world.

Reports also point to the second Unpacked event of the year being held in New York. This fits the pattern of previous events in cultural cities like Paris and Seoul. Health events for those with a Samsung device like the Galaxy Watch or Ring are already scheduled in the Big Apple starting July 13, giving us another potential clue.

Alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 7, Samsung’s smaller clamshell-style foldable, the Z Fold 7 began mass production in May. This offers the perfect timeline for an unveiling in or around July.

Potential Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Release Dates

With both the Z Flip 6 and the Galaxy S25, pre-order windows opened on the same day these Samsung phones were announced. This will likely be the same for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, though we’re less sure of this year’s official release date.

While there’s typically a two-week delay from announcement and pre-order to shipping, these gaps can vary between 12 and 16 days from year to year. For instance, the Flip 6 began shipping on July 24, exactly two weeks on, but the Flip 5 took an extra two days.

Going with the two-week theory, a July 2 announcement indicates July 16. A later July 9 pre-order date points to July 23.

What to Expect From the Galaxy Z Fold 7: Rumored Features & Upgrades

Could the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 be the best flagship foldable yet? Rumors indicate significant upgrades for Samsung’s upcoming launch, including larger displays with a slimmer frame. Let’s take a closer look!

Design

A recent Samsung Newsroom article explains that the newest Galaxy Z series will be the “thinnest, lightest, and most advanced foldable yet meticulously crafted and built to last.”

While the accompanying silhouette shows a phone that looks pretty similar to the previous generation, this easter egg highlights a slimmer, more durable folding device. Z Fold phones become slightly lighter and thinner each year, so this is likely to be true for the Fold 7.

A device that backs up this rumor is the Z Fold Special Edition, which was released exclusively in China and South Korea last year. Weighing just 236 grams, this sleeker device features larger displays and was originally based on the Fold 6.

The Z Fold 7 could take inspiration, featuring a smaller hinge, rounder corners, and a size of 9mm when folded, or just 4.5mm when open. Some sources point to an even slimmer 3.9mm! Multiple color options are likely to feature too, including Black, Silver Shadow, Blue Shadow, and Coral Red.

Displays

The Z Fold 7 may be Samsung’s thinnest foldable yet, but its displays could be the company’s biggest, marking two years of size increases.

While the previous generation’s 6.3-inch cover screen is expected to become 6.5 inches, the 7.6-inch internal main screen may grow to a huge 8 inches!

These displays are likely to feature the same AMOLED tech, a smooth 120 Hz maximum refresh rate, and a 2600-nit peak brightness, plus a less noticeable crease through the center.

Camera

Another significant upgrade will come from the camera setup, which Samsung hints is “at the heart of this transformation” referring to AI.

We don’t have any concrete information on camera specs, but the Newsroom release says that the cameras on foldable devices will offer “enhanced AI-powered features.” Artificial intelligence will become part of the interface that processes what you’re looking at and responds with a relevant action, which could refer to the advanced visual search featured on the latest iPhones.

Like the Z Fold 6, AI functionality will be supported by three rear cameras. However, the Main camera could get an upgrade to 200 megapixels, making it the same quality as the S25 Ultra! We’d also hope for improvements to the Under-Display lens to facilitate better-quality selfies, though there’s been no major upgrades since the Z Fold 3.

This would put the Fold 7’s camera specs at:

  • 200 MP Main

  • 12 MP Ultra Wide

  • 10 MP Telephoto

  • 10 MP Front Selfie

  • 4 MP Under-Display Inner Selfie

Performance & Battery

It’s looking likely that the Z Flip 7 will run on Samsung’s in-house Exynos 2500 chip. But the Fold should definitely include the same Snapdragon 8 Elite chip that’s in the S25 series, as confirmed by regulatory filings.

RAM is likely to remain at 12 GB, although 16 GB or higher could facilitate improved Galaxy AI features. The 4400 mAh battery should stay, too, with a hopefully longer-lasting performance thanks to Qualcomm’s latest chipset.

Price

Starting from $1,899 for the 256 GB model, the Z Fold 6 certainly had a premium price tag. It also saw a $100 price hike from the previous year, encouraging fears that the Z Fold 6 could also see increases.

However, leaks suggest that the cost should stay the same this year for most markets, similar to other Samsung devices released earlier this year.

Final Thoughts

Samsung has been using the “ultra” branding in any recent communications about its upcoming launches, suggesting that a Galaxy Z Fold Ultra could be on the horizon.

But, for now, what we do know for certain is that a Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and a budget-friendly Flip 7 FE are coming as soon as next month! This is great news for those worried about the Fold’s high price point, with plenty of options offering a more accessible route into the foldable phone market.

If rumors are true, the next Unpacked event is just weeks away. And we’re incredibly excited to finally see Samsung’s most advanced foldable yet!
